The formulation acts on the Vata-Kaphaja pathology of Vibandha:
Relief from Constipation (Vibandha)
The combination of Bhedana (Bibhitaki) and Rechana (Trivrut/Senna) ensures that even dried, hard fecal matter (Shushka Purisha) is broken down and expelled. The Lavana ingredients draw water into the lumen (Kledana), softening the stool.
Regulates Bowel Movements (Anulomana)
Unlike habit-forming stimulants, the presence of Haritaki (Himaj) and Aragvadha works on the neurological coordination of the gut (Vata regulation), training the bowel to move naturally.
Eliminates Bloating & Gas (Adhmana/Anaha)
Ajmoda and Suva are potent Vata-hara and Shoola-prashamana. They dissipate trapped air in the Kostha and prevent the upward movement of gas (Udavarta).
Promotes Healthy Digestion (Agni Deepana)
By clearing the colon, the reflex inhibition of the stomach is removed. Ingredients like Vidanga and Mishreya ensure that the metabolic fire is sustained.
Ideal Patient Profile: Patients with Vata-Kapha Prakriti, Mandagni, and sedentary lifestyles.
Stage of Disease: Highly effective in Chronic Vibandha and Jirna Jwara where Anulomana is required.
Clinical Lakshana: Hard stools, feeling of incomplete evacuation, coated tongue (Saama Jihwa), and abdominal heaviness.
Anupana: Best administered with Ushna Jala (Warm water) at bedtime (Nishi Kala) to facilitate the Ushna Virya of the ingredients.
Dosage: 3–6 grams at bedtime, depending on the Kostha (Krura/Mridu) of the patient.
Contraindications: Not recommended during Pregnancy (due to Senna/Trivrut's Tikshna nature), in patients with active Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), or in cases of severe dehydration.
Precautions: Prolonged use of Senna-heavy formulations may lead to Kshaya of Pitta or intestinal dependency. It is advised to taper the dose once Agni is restored.
Interactions: Use with caution if the patient is on potassium-depleting diuretics.
Core Action: Vatanulomana and Srotoshodhana.
Key Karma: Bhedana (breaking) and Rechana (expelling).
Clinical Positioning: A comprehensive Kostha-shuddhi agent that balances the intensity of purgatives with the safety of digestive stimulants.
This MOA justification is intended for registered Ayurvedic practitioners. This formulation should be prescribed only after a thorough clinical assessment including Dashavidha Pariksha. Treatment must be individualized based on the patient's Prakriti, Agni, and Rogabala. Avoid self-medication.
